Swimming
Earlier this week, I signed up to swim on the Master’s Team of the Gators Swim Club. I have been thinking/talking about it since I found out about in March - just never went through with anything. Well, this week something just made me get off my ass and sign up! It’s pretty cheap - $30/month, which includes 3 practices a day M-F and one on Sunday. Granted, you don’t have to go to all of them, but I’m going to do it once a day as often as possible (so far it’s been every other day because of school/homework). It’s strange - I was pretty good in high school; nothing to really brag about, but better than most people. I have lost ALL of it, even my endurance (which, when Colleen and I swam together last Fall, I seemed to still have). I think part of my lack of endurance is because we swim a meter pool, not one that goes by yards (for non-swimmers, it basically means that I am swimming double a yard pool… a little more difficult IMO). I remember Clearwater High School used to practice in a meter pool, and we’d have meets there occasionally. EVERYONE on our team used to hate that pool…and I just remembered why - stupid meters!
I was invited to go see the new HP movie this afternoon, but unfortunately I have a doctor’s appointment followed by a meeting followed by homework. I’ve got so much on my plate right now it amazes me. Managerial Accounting is a 6 week class, so assignments are due within a day of each other. I’ve got the weekend to play catch up, but it’s going to be a hectic catch up weekend, too - Management test on Monday evening, and a test next Friday for my computer class. You guys would not believe all of the things you can do with Excel - it absolutely stuns me. That class is interesting and I am definitely glad I’m taking it - it will help me in the business world for sure. On the other hand though, her lectures are SO boring and my professor kind of comes across as a know-it-all when she doesn’t really know it all. Oh well, she is the professor.
Man, swimming has made me sleep so much better at night (obviously, because I’m burning so many calories doing it!). I am so excited because with my eating habits being as good as they have been in the past month, I’m sure to lose weight. I mean, 90 minutes of swimming (according to Sparkpeople.com) burns something like 1500 calories. My daily caloric intake is right around 1600! That’s insane. My goal is to get down to a comfortable weight for me by the time the cruise rolls around next year (May 2008).
Speaking of the cruise, I don’t think I’ve mentioned it! Mom found out about this program where if she signs people up to go on a cruise through her MG Foundation, some of the proceeds will be given back to Foundation. She’s got almost 40 going now, including my sister and I. We decided that it wasn’t a good idea for Tom to do this because he doesn’t know if he’ll have a steady job or not (since he’s graduating and all). That’s alright though; it’ll still be tons of fun. I’ve been getting all of my stuff together for the application of my passport, and I’ll be going to the post office in the next couple of days to get all of that done (turns out there is a post office that does the photo AND application right down the street from me - sweet!). I can’t wait for that cruise - and, I’ll be 21! In all actuality, it doesn’t really matter because the drinking age in the Bahamas is 18 anyway, but that’s okay. I can start drinking the minute we get on the cruise ship. Not that I’ll really do that or anything - I’ll have to help my mom get everyone registered and situated on the boat. Maybe I’ll have a quick Pina Colada to celebrate being 21 and going on my first cruise though - who knows!

The cruise sounds awesome! I’d love to go on another again sometime.
Great job in the swimming–I give you props. I am a very weak swimmer.
Yeah, this cruise is going to be a nice 4 day cruise - it’s only $450, too, which isn’t too bad (especially considering people are helping a great cause).
Trust me, I’m a weak swimmer too right now! At the normal practices, they swim 4000m - that’s like 2.5 miles! Today I did between 2000 and 2500 I think, but probably closer to 2000. There is just no way my body can handle that.
I think people’s biggest difficulty with swimming (not just for leisure, but actual competitive swimming) is that they don’t know how to breathe. You’re supposed to take an odd number of arm pulls, then breathe, and breathe on both sides of your body, not just one. Maybe that would help you?
Hope everything is going well with you :)
Well, I cant swim well, anyways–that’s mainly what I meant by being weak. So I’m not sure breathing would help! Not like I ever swim anyways though!
