Two Computer Household

Thank goodness we’re not limited to one computer in this household! I have my laptop and Tom has his desktop computer, so if one breaks down, we have another to fall back on.
To make a long (and boring) story short, I have to reinstall Windows on my laptop. I may ask Tom to do it or I may just wait until I can go home so my stepdad can work on it for me. I’m not sure yet. I’ve yet to back everything up (which, thankfully, I can do in Safe Mode without the blue screen of death popping up).
I’m seriously looking into purchasing a new laptop. The only thing that is holding me back is a) money, b) the fact that I just got a 3 year warranty on my current laptop as a Christmas gift, and c) I have no idea what manufacturer I want to go with. A few people have suggested Macs, but I don’t know if I’m willing to completely switch over to something so different from a PC.
I’ve got today and tomorrow’s class and then a two week break until August 25 when school starts back up again. I need to post my schedule - it’s perfect! Better walk Hunter before I go, ciao!
I just switched over from a PC to a Mac and even though it took awhile to get adjusted to the differences, it’s pretty easy to use.
I know! I would die without having more than one computer in the house. When this laptop goes, I’m pretty sure I’m going with a Mac if I can afford it. I’m not sure which manufacturer to suggest. I have an Acer… it hasn’t been awful but I did have to send it off to get fixed because the hard drive went out within a year. My husband has a Toshiba and has had to restore it like 3+ times in the past 2 years.
I haven’t really heard great things about any particular manufacturer.

I was looking at a Mac too but I just hate Apple and their horrible customer service. Like you said with them being so different I would hate to spend so much money for something to not work and I couldn’t get it fixed.
I need a new laptop too, I have a Gateway, which has been okay, but I like HPs they look nice. Maybe in January *crosses fingers*

I have always wanted a Mac - but the operating system is so much different than regular windows; I don’t know if I could ever make the switch! Everytime I think of Macs, I think of our first computer - the Apple IIGS.
I was looking at HP’s - my Dad has an amazing HP that I was looking into but they are so gosh darn much!
eh - the thing cut me off, lol. I was going to say look into HP’s and Gateway’s. I had a Dell laptop at one point and it was alright, not my favorite to work on, but it was alright.
So…my vote is for HP if you decide to get a new laptop.
Ah, lucky you. I only have one PC here, therefore when it goes I’m doomed. I resort to using the school PCs. It’s great that you have a little break. I wish I had a break for a few weeks. I guess I have to wait until this semester ends in December.
That sucks about your laptop! My laptop was giving me issues almost immediately after I finished paying it off. I ended up investing in a Mac myself after my mother, husband, father and brother told me that they’d never go back to a PC. I have to say, I was wary about switching over completely to a Mac (like you said), but I am absolutely in LOVE with it. I, too, will never switch back to a PC. There really isn’t that many differences between the two, except that it seems that Macs are much more reliable, and I have yet to have a problem with it. Everything is pretty straight forward, and just the interface and graphics of everything is so much more awesome.
Just my humble opinion. ;) Good luck with getting yours fixed, though!

we have two laptops. but we’re going to buy a desktop computer. our laptops have been crashing a lot! i hate it. i heard Macs were great. maybe you should look into it.
i’m in the market for a new laptop too, but only because it’s a requirement for my program at school (journalism). i had a perfectly good Dell, that was only a year & a half old and i HAVE to get an Apple Macbook.
i’m kind of excited because my boyfriend, whose a computer genius, tells me that they’re really good computers. i’ve heard though ..that they’re “old” or don’t work that great after 3-4 years, which kind of sucks.
i’m sure you’ll research lots before you decide on one, just thought i’d throw that info out there! :)
