Exercise

The elliptical that I bought back in November has gotten quite a bit of use.  Unfortunately, though, since we’ve moved, I haven’t gotten on it.  I’ve been so busy with other things - setting up the apartment, school, work, home, life in general - that I have neglected my exercise.  I have exercised a little bit, I suppose - walking Hunter and playing with him at the park do count towards exercise.

I need to emphasize that using ellipticals is great for people who get very bored with the treadmill.  Originally, I was thinking about purchasing a treadmill.  The deal that I got and the fact that it works your arms and legs sold me on the elliptical.  In fact, after my mom saw it and used it, she bought one for her house as well!

Call me a nerd, a loser, or antisocial, but here’s how my ideal night goes: a glass of wine, my favorite music playing, and NO ONE ELSE AROUND. I’m in the computer room surfing and relaxing; Romeo’s peering over at me from his side of the desk. It’s peaceful and quiet and I’m in an awfully good mood. Tonight is a friend’s going away/birthday party, but I’m feeling like I’m starting to catch a cold, so I’m staying in (which is why I’m surprised I’m in such a good mood).

The past few days I have felt absolutely exhausted and I don’t know why.  I haven’t done anything out of the ordinary.  I guess my body really is trying to fight off the cold that hasn’t even begun yet.

I restarted my Sparkpeople weight loss information and printed out the grocery list so I can stick to the recommended meal plans.  That’s something I’ve never taken advantage of.  Most of what was on there seemed delicious, so I don’t think I’ll have a problem.  I also got reacquainted with the Normal Eating Support Group (here) because I’m trying desperately to stop my emotional eating habits.  Things with that are on the up-and-up.

Tomorrow morning I get to sit through two hours of a baptist service for my sign language class.  Hopefully it goes by fast.  I’m bummed that I have to get up early but I can always come home and take a nap.  It’s better than going to Jehovah’s Witness or the Pentecostal church (totally not knocking them, but personally, I can’t stand those services).

I’m going to go curl up with a book.  The thing is, I have no idea which book to read next.  Maybe the Shrink Yourself! book I bought awhile ago.

Healthy Snacks

I’m having a little bit of a dilemma right now.  Since moving, I have NOT been sticking to my regular water drinking/eating healthy/exercising routine.  I’ve also noticed that my snacks are not very healthy.  I enjoy carrots, celery, watermelon, strawberries, grapes, etc. but I need more ideas because I am getting sick of that stuff.  Give me some ideas!

Making Progress

I haven’t posted much about my weight loss lately. Before the cruise, I had lost about 5 lbs. because I drank at least 8 glasses of water a day, cut my calories down (still at a healthy level, don’t worry) and was working out about an hour a day. During the cruise I drank quite a bit but was still getting a lot of exercise because of the damn stairs we always had to walk up and down! I did gain a little weight, but since then I have lost a total of 6 lbs. I log my exercise and everything I eat on Sparkpeople and follow my plan religiously. Between the cardio (28 minutes elliptical, 10 minute boot camp video) and strength training (20 minutes), I’m working out quite a bit. Sparkpeople has me working out Monday, Wednesday and Friday. My appetite has totally changed and I’m not always thinking about bad food. Tonight, Tom and I are going out for dinner, and a cheeseburger doesn’t even sound good to me at this point. I’m going to get grilled grouper, I think. I am going to allow myself one or two drinks though :)

Just a quick note while I eat my (very late!) dinner. The cruise is the day after tomorrow! I’m really starting to look forward to it. I’m in a much happier mood despite not being on my medication (I ran out of the prescription and it won’t be refilled until after I get back) and am just really excited. I am going to keep myself busy, but relaxed - not a crazy, jam-packed weekend of drinking, but busy enough that I’ll have a well-rounded experience.

The past couple days I have eaten EXTREMELY well (without being extremely hungry, which is normally my problem), drinking lots of water (8 glasses today!) and exercising to my little heart’s content. I plan on going to the gym while on the cruise, too. That will be on Friday. Let’s hope these good habits keep up!

I’m off to pick up the apartment before I go to bed!
