You mean … I’m graduating?!

The feeling has finally sunk in.  I took two out of my three finals yesterday and classes are over.  I woke up this morning all ready to lounge around, do nothing and sit in my pajamas all day.  Yeah, not happening.  I’m too excited!  I made myself a very nice breakfast (albeit healthy), folded clothes, ran a few more loads, played with the dogs and paid a couple bills.  I’ve got some errands to run this afternoon, but I’m going to save that for after Tom is home for lunch.

I got some good news this week.  We finally know where we will be moving and where I will be attending law school beginning in the fall.  Unfortunately, I did not get into my top choice, but PLEASE do not comment and say “I am so sorry” because I am totally fine with it.  My top choice was a private school and although it would have been so nice to live back at home near my friends and family, it would have cost us SO much more.  With my school, I will be saving about $22,000 because of my scholarship.  Also, Tom and I will be able to start our marriage completely fresh and on our own; not that I wouldn’t prefer to have his family and mine closer for us to lean on when we need them, but I really think it will help our marriage to be away.  We’ve already told our families that our house will be the “vacation house” so they will have to come visit.  I am so incredibly excited (and proud of myself) because I am actually doing it - really and truly going to law school!!!

With finals and all that, I have seriously been slacking with working out, and my good eating habits have gone out the window.  This morning, I started up again.  The gym is going to be my last “errand” of the day and when I get back from that, I will be shredding.  I weighed myself this morning AND I GAINED A POUND FROM LAST WEEK.  UGH.  I was talking with a friend and she recommended that I should stop weighing myself and instead get a measuring tape to measure myself once a week.  With all the strength training I’m doing, it makes more sense to pay attention to the inches but not the pounds.

And lastly, I was tagged by one of my favorite people to post a picture of myself that I JUST took.  I took three and couldn’t choose, so I’ll just post all of them:

111150

111157

111211

Um yeah.  Still in my pajamas, hair unwashed, face unwashed, and … I haven’t even brushed my teeth yet.  Why did you make me do this, Rachael?!

I am going to get a couple other people to do this, so consider yourself tagged Tiffany, Jessica, Katharina, and Lynn!  Here are the rules:

  • Take a picture of yourself right now.
  • No primping or preparing.
  • Just snap a picture.
  • Load the picture onto your blog.
  • Tag some people to play along.

Have fun! :)

Still Dreaming of a House

I’ve been reading a lot of Katharina’s posts about the new apartment she will be moving into soon, and I have to say, I’m sort of jealous.  I mean YES, moving is tedious and annoying.  But the best part is buying new things for your new home and turning into a cozy, comfortable place.  So when I read Katharina’s posts, I start dreaming about our first house….

It will have to be at least two bedrooms, but preferably three.  I want a guest room and an office that we can later turn into another guestroom or nursery (if we end up staying in our first house that long).  Two bathrooms would be perfect, but the master bathroom should definitely be bigger than the one we have now.  The kitchen will have to be pretty big, but we’re planning to basically redo any kitchen we come across so it suits me better.  I want pull out cabinet drawers and a pantry.  We would have a pantry now except a) the closet is not in the kitchen (which I hate) and b) there is a freezer in there currently.

The washer/dryer should be in the two car garage.  I am sick of going outside to do the laundry.  When it’s raining, I (and the clean clothes) get rained on.  When it’s cold and I don’t feel like putting on 10 layers of clothes, the laundry goes untouched for days on end.

I also want a side yard that I can plant a garden in.  Not just a flower garden, but one for vegetables and herbs.  Having a window box with four herbs is just not doing it for me.  I also want to be able to plant all kinds of flowers in the front and backyard.  The backyard needs to be big enough for the dogs to stretch their legs.  It should be fenced – preferably with high vinyle fencing in white – no aluminum fence installation for us.  I just think they look very uninviting and just … out of place in a residential backyard.

Like I’ve mentioned before, we’re going for a fixer upper that we can turn into a beautiful home that we are proud of.  Of course, none of this stuff is going to happen over night.  It is so much fun to think about what our future house will look like though!  I get excited everyday just dreaming about it.

Not Forgotten

Happy 2009!  I’ve got so much to write about, but so little time right now!  Let me leave you with a few bullets about what’s been going on.

  • Been engaged for a week and one day – awesome :)  We were originally thinking an August 1st wedding but there are some conflicts so we’re reconsidering.
  • Went to Virginia for New Year’s and had a wonderful time with my brother, sister-in-law, and his children.
  • School is back in.  Bleh.
  • Wedding planning is so overwhelming!  I have my bridesmaids, flower girl and ring bearer so far.

Before I can get back on and write a REAL post, I’ve got so much to do.

  • Clean bathroom from dog’s bath (they got into the mud this morning.  Not. Fun.)
  • Clean up kitchen
  • Start laundry
  • Put away random crap around the apartment
  • Shower
  • Watch lecture
  • Get everything together for class tomorrow

SO!  I’ll be back later today when my to do list is complete.

Tidbit(s)

There are two things I wanted to post about before I lay down with a book and some tea:

  • Happy birthday to Melissa.  You definitely do NOT look your age, and I love reading your blog.  You’re truly blessed, girl.  Good luck to George, I’m sure he did great on the bar!
  • I have a hostee – my first ever.  Her name is Jordan and you can visit her at Part of My Charm.  Part of her charm is that she is so nice and very bubbly.  Plus, she nicknamed her S.O. “Red Baron” which cracks me up and makes me think of pizza whenever I read about him.  Welcome to LoB, Jordan!

Happy almost-Friday, devoted reader(s)!

School, school, and more school

Here’s what I have coming up (and why I blog very infrequently compared to how often I used to):

- Criminological Theory Test 1 (Friday, 2/15)
- Part I of Research Methods of Criminology paper on Social Bonding Theory and Drug Use (Tuesday, 2/19)
- Stress and Anxiety Management Class Presentation on Massage Therapy (Wednesday, 2/20)
- Stress and Anxiety Management Paper due on Massage Therapy experience
- LSAT Kaplan Test Preparation Sign up

I’m also in the process of rewriting my resume, starting my personal statements and applications for law school, and getting miscellaneous class work done. If it seems like I’m complaining about how busy I am, I hope no one is taking it that way because I LOVE this semester and am truly enjoying keeping on my toes. I wish I had had this tenacity and motivation when I was earlier in my undergraduate studies, but since I can’t go back and do it over again, I’m trying to make the best of what I have left.

I had to go to one of the main libraries on campus today to check out a book for the paper that is due next week. I have, in all honesty, never checked out books since I’ve been at UF! I actually had to go the Circulation Desk and ask them to help me. Thankfully, though, I found the book I was looking for (and another one that I’m going to use). My day is going to be spent on this paper when I get back home, so I had to get the book today.

I brought my pedometer with me to wear throughout the day, since Wednesday is my heaviest day walking-wise. I’ve walked almost 8,000 steps and I’m not even finished! I’ve also walked home every day this week and last week (with the exception of Thursday because Tom picked me up from work). I may not walk home today because I have my laptop and the weather isn’t looking too great for walking. If I don’t have my laptop I am seriously at a disadvantage, because it is my everything. I’ll probably go home though and do some pilates and work out on the elliptical because I’ll need the activity (it boosts my energy after a long day on campus).

Rambling much? I think so! I guess I just have a lot to say today. As my old bus driver used to say, have a great one and a safe one!
