Did I forget again?

Guys, I am so sorry for the almost week long break I took from blogging!  My test went well (at least I think… but let’s wait until I get the grade) and Tom and I went away for the weekend with our dogs.  It was so great.  In fact, I have some pictures to share as soon as I get the hard drive back from Tom’s co worker.

We came back on Sunday night and went to bed early.  Yesterday I hit the gym bright and early and learned a couple new machines – I even tried the rowing machine which I have never done before.  I liked it – burned 120 calories in 15 minutes!  That thing is amazing.  I’m going to need to get a pair of gloves or something, though, because my hands were rubbed raw from pulling the wooden bar so much.

I wanted to go back to the gym today but I am getting this allergy/cold thing (not sure which one just yet) and feeling pretty gross.  I tell you, when does the sickness end?!  It seems like everyone keeps getting sick over and over again.  STOP IT POLLEN.

In other news, I have received two acceptance letters to law school so far, with scholarships to both schools!  One is out of state and I will not be accepting it since I have received acceptance from one school (so far.. hopefully the rest will accept me also) that is in state.  In state means cheaper tuition and less money I will have to take out in loans.  Pllllllease keep your fingers crossed for me!  I still haven’t heard from my top school but I should be hearing in the next few weeks.  We would be okay with going to the in state school I’ve been accepted to so far, but it’s not as close to our parents’ homes, the beach, our nephew, etc. as my top choice is.  As Rachie put it, my top choice is the “perfect place” for us.  Plus Tom could transfer within his company and continue to create cad drawings instead of starting all over at another company.

I promise to be better with updating and commenting.  For the record, I really do read your blogs on a regular basis.  It’s just the commenting that I’m bad at sometimes.  I guess that’s why I don’t get upset when people comment on my site all the time.  Life is busy and hectic, and people’s first priority isn’t to visit the blog!

We’re Loved!

Wow, the engagement party was AMAZING.  We had an absolute blast and everything down to the last detail was perfect.  Tom’s sister put it on for us (did I already mention that?) and she couldn’t have done a better job.  The theme was the colors that we’re using for the wedding.  There was enough food, wine and beer for everyone to enjoy, pictures of Tom and I throughout the house in frames that she had hand painted, and even Tom’s dad’s deer were dressed as a bride and groom.  It was neat to say the least!  We ended up having about 50 people attend, which is why the title of this post is “We’re Loved!”  We felt so incredibly special.  And, we got some cool stuff!  My favorite was the handwritten family recipes from Tom’s sister, though.  I cried when we opened the recipe box!  We also got some crystal bowls, money for our honeymoon, flip flops/shirts for our honeymoon, a tour book of Maui, wine, gift cards, frames, and a recipe organizer.  We were lucky enough to have time to complete our thank you cards last night.  That reminds me – we got a funny (but good) gift – an etiquette book!  It’s perfect for those situations that you’re not sure about.  For example, we weren’t sure if we were supposed to open our gifts in front of people or wait until they had left.  We ended up waiting until everyone had left, which according to the etiquette book was correct.  Yay!

Believe it or not, I came down with another cold.  All of a sudden it just hit me last night after we got back from driving.  My mom seems to think it’s the remnants of the cold I had a couple weeks ago, but I don’t know.  I do know that it’s killing my gym time!  I’m feeling too bad to go.

Yesterday we went to Sam’s Club to get our membership card and stock up on meat and fruit.  The strawberries they had were SO DELICIOUS looking that I almost bought two of them!  Now we won’t have to buy anything for awhile.  We’re going to use the strawberries to make homemade ice cream with the ice cream attachment I got for Christmas (to use with my stand mixer).

Gotta run, the dogs are going nuts and it’s making me crazy!

Valentine’s Day Recap

I had a very nice Valentine’s Day despite being sick with a cold.  Tom and I went and ran errands, got some stuff for the animals for the holiday, went grocery shopping and then got lunch.  We bought our cards together and ended up inviting our friends over for dinner and a movie.  After 7 years, Valentine’s Day really isn’t a big deal to us, but we do like to do something a little special.

We made black tie rib roast with chocolate port sauce, marinated/grilled zucchini, a homemade caesar salad and chocolate ricotta pudding with strawberry sauce.  Everything was a big hit!  We ended up watching Beaches with Bette Midler – what a sad movie.  Everyone was crying by the end of it, haha.

Anyway, Tom kept bugging me about what I wanted for Valentine’s Day.  I thought about asking for an sd card, but found out that he had already decided on a 1 terabyte external hard drive for all of our important documents, music and pictures.  Thanks, honey!

Valentine’s Day Already?

This year is just flying by.  The older you get, the faster time goes by, I think.  It seems like we were just getting through the Christmas holidays and that I started my last semester of undergrad.  Now, I’ve already had two exams, multiple quizzes, and am finally locking everything in place for law school applications.

In the last week, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I’d like to do for Tom this Valentine’s Day.  It’s a very special one – our seventh Valentine’s Day together, but the first one that is significant because of our engagement.  I don’t want to spend a lot of money on material objects; I’d much rather spend money on ingredients for a really nice dinner that I can cook at home.  I think he would appreciate the time and effort put into that, too.  Plus, he knows how much I enjoy cooking for him.  Sounds like I just talked myself into cooking a meal for him, right?  Now I just need to figure out what exactly I want to make.  It’d be fun to use my new dessert cookbook and do something for him I’ve never made before.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans?  If you’re cooking, what will you be making for your significant other?

Weight Loss Options Not For Me

It felt sooooo good to get back to the gym today.  I take Saturday and Sunday off, but still eat healthy and drink my water.  This morning, I managed to bike one mile more than I did on Friday.  I also stuck to my 1:2:1 interval training and really enjoyed it.

I don’t think I’d be a candidate for Weight loss woodlands, but I know there are people out there that are.  I’m not overweight enough to need something like that and won’t ever let myself get that way (if I can help it).  I may be spending a hefty hunk of change on a gym membership, but I’m putting in a lot of time and effort, working in extra hard and getting amazing results.

All in all, I believe the natural way is the best way to go.
