Penny Pinching

I have SO much to discuss about my bridal shower, but I want to save that for another post, when I can actually include pictures!  Right now, I don’t have any, but will be getting a DVD of them next time I see my future sister-in-law.

I got my financial aid package for law school.  On the one hand, YAY, I got a scholarship and my expected family contribution (according to FAFSA) is $0.  That means I qualify for more Federal Stafford loans than I did in undergrad.  On the other hand, OUCH, we will be taking out about $200,000 when all is said and done.  Between Stafford loans, our combined undergrad loans, and private loans (to make up the difference in what I wasn’t offered in my financial aid package), it’s going to be a lot.  Granted, I thought I’d be taking out more like $300,000, so I feel good about that (at least).

Now that we know that, we are definitely pinching pennies even more!  It is depressing to think about taking that much money out, but thankfully I will (one day) have a good job that allows us to pay it back.  A good portion of the interest will be paid by the government, too (thank you Subsidized loans that I actually qualify for this time around!).

Scary, yet fun – tonight I logged into my student account at my law school – for the first time ever.  Don’t ask me why, but it was the coolest and scariest feeling!  I have said it about a million times, but I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M GOING TO LAW SCHOOL.  I’m so excited and nervous!

Speaking of the law, work is going so well.  Whoa, I almost just typed “school” instead of “work.”  Yeah, I forgot what going to school feels like, haha.  That feeling will come back soon enough though, right?  I’ll eat my words in August, haha.

I just realized how ridic this post is.  Sorry!  I’m feeling a mix of emotions and in the process, babbling all over the place.  I want to go play Sims 3 (which I got in the mail yesterday) but my book (John Grisham’s The Street Lawyer …. haha) is also calling my name.  Hmmm….

All Over the Place

My post is going to be all over the place  – sorry about that.  I’m going a little crazy because a) I don’t know what to do with myself without having classes/work to do and b) it’s been raining ALL day so I feel like I’m running a doggy day care!

First off, look at what I just bought from Victoria Secret:

Victoria Secret order

The total on that order says I was supposed to pay $51.25, but I only paid $30.27.  Not only did I get $20 in discounts, I got those slippers for FREE and I’ll get double rewards through Ebates.  Sweet!

WW and the Shrinking Jeans challenge is going well.  I’ve eaten well today.  So far, I’ve had:

  • DanActive Immunity drink
  • Scrambled eggs with salt, pepper, and chives (1 whole egg, 2 egg whites)
  • 1 apple
  • 2 slices whole wheat toast with a tiny spread of cream cheese
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of tea that is BOGO at Publix – it’s something like Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride – SO GOOD!
  • Stouffer’s Mac n’ Cheese

For the rest of the day I’m going to be drinking a lot of water.  I also need to hop on the elliptical because we’ve got a party to go to tonight and I know I’ll be drinking more wine than usual.

I am so obsessed with Christmas/Christmas music.  The Christmas Wreath Yankee Candle has been burning almost nonstop since we bought it last weekend and I have been listening to Christmas music literally ALL week.

Have I blogged about my idea for term life insurance lately?  It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about because I want Tom and my family to be prepared in the event that something happens to me.  It’s not the happiest thing to think about this time of year, but what would happen if suddenly I wasn’t around?  I want to be sure everything will be taken care of.

I made a list yesterday of the law schools I will be applying to and their associated application fees.  WOW!  I’m going to be spending a lot.  It’s so worth it to me though.

Off to work on laundry, do some exercising and make sure the dogs don’t tear up the living room!

Ebates Savings

I just got a really good deal on Ebates.com.  I got a sweater from Victoria Secret for $13.30 (on sale $19.00, but used the GET30 code for 30% off) and a free fragrance set (using the SCENT08 code).  I also got 4% back on the total amount I spent because of the deal going on at Ebates right now.

I’m not sure if a lot of you know about Ebates.com, but I’d recommend signing up for it before the holidays especially if you plan on doing any of your shopping online.

You can sign up for Ebates and then go to Victoria Secret’s website from the Ebates web site and do all your shopping.  If you sign up through the link I provided, you’ll get $5 when you make your first purchase!  It certainly helps when you’re trying to save money.

I will continue to post anything I find that will help you save money on your holiday shopping.
