Valentine’s Day Already?

This year is just flying by.  The older you get, the faster time goes by, I think.  It seems like we were just getting through the Christmas holidays and that I started my last semester of undergrad.  Now, I’ve already had two exams, multiple quizzes, and am finally locking everything in place for law school applications.

In the last week, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I’d like to do for Tom this Valentine’s Day.  It’s a very special one – our seventh Valentine’s Day together, but the first one that is significant because of our engagement.  I don’t want to spend a lot of money on material objects; I’d much rather spend money on ingredients for a really nice dinner that I can cook at home.  I think he would appreciate the time and effort put into that, too.  Plus, he knows how much I enjoy cooking for him.  Sounds like I just talked myself into cooking a meal for him, right?  Now I just need to figure out what exactly I want to make.  It’d be fun to use my new dessert cookbook and do something for him I’ve never made before.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans?  If you’re cooking, what will you be making for your significant other?

Who is this dog?

I am really feeling down today.  In the last few weeks (specifically beginning after the holidays), our dog Remington has become increasingly hyper, rambunctious, and aggressive.  There have been a total of three aggressive encounters at the park, with the most recent one involving the dog needing two stitches (she will be perfectly fine, but this is still a very serious matter).

Tom and I have been in contact with a trainer who will (starting tomorrow) come to our home and help us get a hold on why Remington is randomly attacking dogs at the park.  It’s not every dog, and it’s not every time we go; it’s completely unpredictable.  He NEVER used to be like this at the dog park.  At home (for the most part) he is very relaxed and laid back.  We are both heartsick because he needs the exercise he gets at the dog park, but if he’s aggressive towards other dogs, we can’t bring him back.

We’re also in touch with the vet so we can get him in to make sure there is nothing physically wrong that may be triggering him.  I feel like we’ve done something wrong, even though we’re doing the right thing – recognizing the problem, getting help, etc.  We’re working with him one-on-one on the leash and during playtime.  Last night, after the park encounter, our friend brought her dog over (who Remy had never met).  They got to sniff each other while they were both leashed, and when everything was okay they were let off.  The three dogs played like they were long lost buddies and nothing happened.

Remington is not protective over his food and he doesn’t go after the cat.  Without Hunter he is calm on his leash and even in the car.  He is slightly protective over toys but not aggressive.  I guess we just have to keep doing what we’re doing, be aware of the problem, and keep our hopes up that our boy isn’t a total monster.

WHOA Weekend!

I had an incredible weekend.  It started Thursday night when Tom’s best friend flew into town, and ended with him leaving yesterday.  I’ll bullet point this stuff, because it’s easier for me to do it that way.

  • Friday: Went out to breakfast with Kevin while we waited for Tom to finish up work.  When we got back (we were only gone for an hour) we noticed that the dogs had attacked our couch.  It was in the middle of the flour with the bottom cushion ripped out.  Tom came home so we went to lunch with Amy and had long island iced teas and a Washington Apple shot to celebrate our engagement.  Came back and kept drinking.  Tom’s brother and another friend arrived and our night of silly drinking began.  The night ended with me falling over the dog gate and now I have two huge bruises on my butt.
  • Saturday: Woke up feeling ROUGH.  Went to breakfast (I barely made it) and got it free because there was hair in my eggs (ew).  Took a nap for a couple hours, got cleaned up and headed out to buy stuff for our engagement party.  Got over to Amy’s (where the party was at) at about 7:30 to begin grilling and to get everything set up.  Long story short, the night ended at 3:30am when Tom and I finally got to crash into bed.
  • Sunday: Not feeling bad at all, surprisingly!  Hung out with everyone until Tom’s brother and friend left.  Kevin went to lunch with his parents and we cleaned up the apartment.  Kevin left around 6:15pm.

The only bad thing about the weekend was that it was NOT good for my diet!  Luckily though everyone around me is on detox because we did so much boozing this weekend.  I seriously considered looking into buying some Lipovox to at least get down to where I was last week, but it’s really not in my best interest.

Now I’m reading for my History of American Violence class, doing laundry, and getting caught up on other schoolwork.  It’s a pretty dreary day outside, too.  Good day to drink lots of water, elliptical it up, and relax!

SJ Week 2 Update

Good afternoon, readers!  Unfortunately, I gained 1 lb from last week.  But, before that, I had lost 5.  I think it is water weight and bloating that is causing my weight to be so high.  I need to get back on track with drinking water!  Did you see the article on Shrinking Jeans about how much water you’re supposed to drink per day?  You should be drinking 40% of your current weight in ounces.  That’s a lot of water, something I’ll definitely have to work toward.

On the Wedding Front, the reception site is booked for sure.  We have signed the contract and are now waiting to hear back from my priest.  Yay!  Tom and I are working on invitations now.  We have a general idea of what we want, but it’s difficult to find stationary with both of our colors.  We’re going to keep looking though.  Meanwhile, if you have any companies that you recommend for printing, please let me know!

Our engagement party (for our friends) is this Saturday.  We’ve got a few friends staying with us which will make it so much fun!  I’ve been running around like a mad woman today cleaning and preparing, since tomorrow I have class all day and one friend gets in tomorrow night.  I know no one will really care if our apartment is absolutely spotless or not, but I’m OCD like that.  And, I just hate having guests when the apartment is not immaculate!

Speaking of cleanliness … yesterday, Tom came home during lunch (like he normally does) to check on the dogs.  They had torn the foam cushion out of the chair we have (that matches the couch).  There was foam EVERYWHERE.  I came home right behind him and my jaw dropped to the floor.  What a site our living room was, seriously!  We got a few pictures that I’ll have to share when I unload the camera.  Needless to say, we are now running a doggy boot camp with Hunter and Remy.  I think they’ve figured it out, too, that they did something REALLY bad.

I always hate ending a post.  I never know what to say!
