Birthday Countdown

Days until my birthday: 5

Any idea what I want: No

It’s funny - usually, I’m the annoying girl who is counting down her birthday and reminding everyone around her.  I get so excited because for the past several years I’ve had a lot to look forward to when my birthday rolls around - getting my permit, driver’s license, buying a Lotto ticket, buying drinks, etc.  Now I just feel downright old because I’m turning 22.  Doesn’t that sounds ridiculously old?  It does for me!

I tried to think of what I wanted for my birthday - and for Christmas, too - but couldn’t really come up with anything.  I think my parents are buying me an ice cream maker attachment for my mixer (which I’ve wanted for awhile) and I have no idea what my dad is getting me.  Tom has no idea either.  Jokingly, I suggested used cisco products because, you know, the new laptop isn’t enough!  Just kidding.  I don’t need anymore electronics for awhile!

I keep telling Tom that it’s not about the presents for me anymore - I’m too old for that.  I just love getting everyone together and enjoying that special day that I can call my own.  So if your birthday also happens to be on Sunday, I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

One Obstacle Down

The LSAT is over …. can you imagine my excitement!?  No more LSAT prep, logic games, or having freak out sessions.  I’m actually looking forward to finishing my applications and writing my personal statement (which is an entire story by itself).

Unfortunately, though, I’ve got a paper and a journal assignment to write before tomorrow.  So despite the fact that I WANT to blog and tell you all about how the LSAT went and how relieved I am, it has to wait until I finish these assignments.  The good news is that I’m almost finished with the paper.  I just need to tie up some loose ends.

Also, I’m still doing WW/SOTSJ but doing pretty bad with eating at this point.  I’ll blog about that too, promise.

Oooh!  And I’ll be 22 in five days!

Shrinking Jeans: The Beginning

I got busy yesterday and didn’t get a chance to post for The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans December Challenge.  Sorry it’s late!

As I posted yesterday, I joined Weight Watchers.  My starting weight was 180.6.  Unfortunately, I weighed myself after breakfast but remembered before I showered!  My first goal is to lose 10% of my body weight - meaning a goal of 162 lbs.  I think it’ll be difficult with my birthday, Christmas, Virginia trip and the break coming up, but I know I can do it.  I hate the feeling I get when I’m absolutely stuffed, so I try to avoid it at all costs - as much as I love eating all the holiday food my family and friends make!

I didn’t manage to work in any exercise yesterday, but I will be getting on the elliptical and the Wii Fit this afternoon.  I am hoping to get the dogs to the park as well.  It’s always really fun for me because I run around with them, throw a stick or ball, etc.  I’ve also got some cleaning and laundry to do which is still considered movement!

Yesterday I had a glass of wine after dinner, nachos (lots of lettuce and tomato) with dinner, half of a chicken BLT and water instead of iced tea.  I also opted out of the Baskin Robbins ice cream we all stopped for after dinner.

Today, I had the left over chicken BLT sandwich for a late breakfast (I woke up at 10am) and three York peppermint patties.  As soon as those are gone I’m not going to be buying anymore.  They’re really bad for my weight!

I’m also still only on my first bottle of water today, but with working out and stuff that’ll be different by this evening.  I’m actually halfway through my last LSAT diagnostic test and since every second is precious, I don’t bother sipping water (yes I take it that seriously).

I’m really looking forward to this journey.  And, I encourage you to join me at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans!  You don’t have to have any specific weight loss plan, it’s just there for motivation and accountability.  There are weekly weigh ins on Wednesday, but you only have to post on Wednesday and link back to them with your weekly weigh in weight.  You don’t necessarily have to actually weigh in on Wednesday.

I’m off to permalink this post over there, browse some sites, and check on the dogs before I finish the last two sections of the LSAT.  I’m loving all the comments lately, thanks guys!

Online Universities

Lately, my mom has been discussing with me how much she wishes she had finished her degree when she initially started college about 25 years ago.  She’s also been itching to try out some computer classes to increase her knowledge because let’s face it, at over 50 she does not know how to use a computer like those of us who’ve grown up with them do!  I have suggested that she look into accredited online universities.  There is a community college-esque school right up the road from our house, but because of her busy schedule with a volunteer organization and all the running around she does with other things, I think she would benefit most from an accredited online university.

My mom and I have both agreed that it doesn’t really matter which online university she chooses, but at the very least it should be accredited.  Accreditation is beneficial because it ensures a certain quality in each school - meaning that every school that is accredited is comparable to others.  Furthermore, without accreditation, schools are less likely to feel the need to keep the quality of education that students receive at a high standard because there is no competition with other schools and no specific measure of their quality.

I would really like my mom to succeed in going back to school and finishing out her degree.  Although she is a very intelligent woman and has done amazing things without finishing her degree, I think she’d be even more successful than she already is!

On Board

While reading Jen’s blog, I felt this little urge deep inside me to reinstate my Weight Watchers subscription.  After thinking about it for a few days, I think I’m going to go ahead and do it.  I found a coupon online that saved me an extra $10 off of a three month subscription and this is going to be my Christmas/birthday present to myself.

I also joined The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans.  They’re the other reason why I decided to sign up for Weight Watchers again.  I realized that I didn’t have a real plan as to diet and exercise and hadn’t for awhile.  That’s not good, especially with me being as busy as I am!

I started out with the Flex Plan on Weight Watchers and am allowed to have 25 points a day, 35 a week.  When I was on Weight Watchers before I believe I started out with 25/35 as well, so this won’t be too difficult.  The most difficult part of this will be watching what I eat and drink over the holidays, exercising despite the craziness, and drinking enough water (which is always hard for me even though I don’t mind it).  Come March 3, I hope to have lost 10% of my current body weight and will continue (successfully) from there!

I spent an hour watching a lecture about a games problem set for the LSAT, so now I’m breaking it up with beginning my risk assessment that is due next week.  I’m doing it on my apartment complex since I wasn’t able to find a local company that was willing to let me do a research project on their security breaches/problems that need to be addressed.  I can’t wait until this class is over!

I also wanted to say thank you to San for sending me an email about my protected post.  I wouldn’t have known that comments were down on that layout had she not emailed me!  I also appreciated her kind words and good luck wishes on Saturday.  She’s a sweet girl, you should go check our her blog.  The protected post is still up (and comments are now enabled), so head on over and read it.

Also, you should check out Jordan’s blog because she is my hostee!  Her blog cracks me up and I love how much she shares about her relationship with the Red Baron.  If you don’t know who I’m talking about, get over there and read on!
